Wedding Stars

You have so many choices when it comes to the decorations you can put up at your wedding reception that it can be mind-boggling. Put aside your worries about decorations and concentrate on the wedding itself. Youll need little time, money or effort to put up dazzling stars which hang from the ceiling - over the food table, above the dance floor, or elsewhere in the room.

You cant believe how simple it is to make the hanging stars which, when finished, are spectacular. Theyll look expensive but wont be. When the wedding is over, dont get rid of them - save them for another special occasion. They can be easily re-decorated and used for Christmas, the Fourth of July or other occasions.

Purchase large, Styrofoam balls at a craft store to begin the construction of the stars. Make all the stars the same size or make them in assorted sizes. Craft stores sell quite a large variety of Styrofoam balls that are very inexpensive. Purchase cones to finish the stars. The cones can be ordinary and white - those meant for putting fluids into your car - or even cone-shaped birthday party hats. You can even roll your own cones using scrapbook paper with a wedding theme. There are various ways to make the hanging stars. First, make a hole in any one area of the ball, using a pencil, skewer or other poker. Cut a piece of string or twine, fold it in half, dispense hot glue into the hole, then place the twine ends into the hole. Apply hot glue around the large opening of a cone and stick it to the ball. Do this five times, placing the cones in a circle around the ball, and spacing them evenly apart. Create a different look by smashing the cones flat before attaching them to the ball. For this version, cut slits in the ball, dispense hot glue into them, then slide the wide end of a smashed cone into each slit. Another version you can do is to stick the points of the cones into the ball. When youre finished with the type of star you want spray paint the entire thing gold, silver or another color. Change the look of certain stars by sliding streamers or tinsel strands into the points and taping them on the inside of the cone, and do this before attaching the cones to the ball. Hang the glittery balls all over the wedding reception room and watch as the guests gaze in awe. They look fancy and expensive but are really not costly at all. Its a great way to decorate an entire room for little cash.
